Think about it, how many companies do you know that have carried out a project for the reconstruction of a military airfield beyond the Arctic Circle in permafrost conditions with the extension of the runway at sea without interruption of flight activities? The reconstruction of the Tiksi airfield is one of our most interesting and complex projects!
Difficulties began already at the stage of engineering surveys. The delivery of the necessary machinery and equipment to the work site was carried out by military transport aircraft, the frozen ground was difficult to drill, and the samples taken had to be transported in special refrigerated containers back to Moscow for laboratory tests in an unchanged condition. The work was carried out in the conditions of an operating enterprise with strict compliance with the established regime of the territory.
A non-standard engineering task was to decide how to prevent the melting of permafrost under the runway in order to avoid its destruction. After the conducted research and calculations, it was decided to use an innovative technology of thermal stabilization of soils based on gas pipes, which does not require additional maintenance during operation, which allowed to achieve the desired result and save the Customer's money.
Due to the lack of road and rail communication, the issue of delivering the necessary amount of construction materials was acute. The period of navigation above the Arctic Circle is only 2 months a year. An expanded logistics scheme of delivery by road and railway transport to the port of Murmansk and then by sea was developed. All suppliers and carriers were agreed upon, storage locations at the facility were thought out.
As part of the design, a draft layout of the territory, design and estimate documentation for the reconstruction of the airfield and the drainage network of the airfield, as well as documentation for the construction of four military structures were developed.
