«This is a completely unique, new, modern object that will adorn any city in the world». It was in these words that the governor of the Volgograd region, Andrey Bocharov, described the embankment. The hero city of Volgograd has long been waiting for the creation of a new point of attraction for residents and guests of the city. In our project, we have tried to combine recreational areas and historical objects in a balanced way, reminiscent of the patriotic feat of the Soviet people.
An interesting feature of the embankment is two levels connected by stairs, ramps and delimited by retaining walls. During a flood, the lower level of the exploited part of the embankment is flooded with water, changing the visual landscape. At the same time, there is nothing threatening the operability of the non-flooded part of the embankment, since the project provides for appropriate measures of engineering protection of structures and communications.
The object of complex design includes the construction of a pedestrian overpass with individual architecture, 2500 meters of retaining walls with a height of more than 5 meters, repair of all berths, including complete dismantling and reconstruction of one of them with reinforcement of the ground under the foundation by Jet Grouting. Also, 8 sewage treatment plants, 3 pumping stations were installed, many kilometers of electrical networks, water supply (including irrigation) and sewerage were carried out. The embankment was decorated with 7 modern light-dynamic fountains with natural granite stone trim.
The key object of the embankment is an amphitheater with 2,000 seats, connected by a new overpass to the cultural heritage site by the Coventry Staircase. Due to the complex architecture, it was decided to complete part of the overpass and the amphitheater project in BIM format, including a full rendering of the reinforcement. An important structural element of the amphitheater is an unused basement filled with sandy soil, which serves as an "insurance" against an unplanned trip of the structure along the Volga during a flood.
